Monte Cesariis – Moggessa di Quá
Description
The tour starts below Moggio Udinese. The ascent is relaxed on asphalt. Above the hamlet of Borgo Travasans, you pedal along an old military road from the First World War with a constant incline uphill through the forest. At the highest point of the tour, at the Balcon di Provezi, you can already see a panorama that you don't get to every day. The villages of Moggessa di Lá, Moggessa di Quá, Stavoli and Creta Grauzaria to the north are an absolute dream.
The trail descent is also a dream. At difficulty level S2, it goes a few meters to the viewpoint to the village of Moggessa di Quá. The so-called abandoned villages were partially destroyed as a result of an earthquake in the 1970s and are now only sporadically populated. You ride through the ruins, which have left an extraordinary mark on nature. Continue along the connecting path, which was originally used to reach the villages, on difficulty S2. However, it is eroded in places and the bike has to be pushed a few meters. Further down at Torrente Glagno, you reach an indescribable stream bed. The water is crystal clear, turquoise-blue in color and is more reminiscent of the Caribbean than a bike tour in the middle of Friuli. From this section onwards, the tour becomes more of a discovery trail than a trail. Endless sections of stream and pools are explored and the crossing of the railroad line is a particular highlight. The Strada per Stavoli finally ends in Campiolo Alto and features another small trail before you finally return to the starting point. The route back to the starting point follows a military road from the Second World War in Vallo Alpino.

Easy pedaling up the military road is rather not...is more of a grassy path that becomes more and more a path with stones/roots and you have to be in good shape, short pushing passages at the top, this descent is rarely used, very narrow, a few S3 places at the top, then becoming more and more flowy when you see the path, after the village and at the river again and again steep counter climbs that take the flow out, scenically top. October 2025.
Did the tour in May 2024. Here are a few pictures:
