Wildgrabenjoch
Description
The tour starts just above Innichen, shortly before Sexten. From here, the route follows a classic path—first on asphalt, then on gravel—toward the Innerfeld Valley, through very scenic terrain that climbs steadily uphill. After passing the Dreischusterhütte, you can still ride for a few more meters before you’ll need to push or carry your mountain bike. The highest point of the tour is 2,289 meters above sea level. From here, impressive panoramic views open up toward the Drei Zinnen Nature Park and Monte Piana (or Piano).
Theoretically, a traverse to the south would be possible from here, but the descent through the Wildgrabenjoch is very exposed in places and secured with ropes. The described northbound descent ranges in difficulty from S2 to S3, depending on the degree of erosion and weather conditions along the trail, with the descent toward the head of the Innerfeldtal valley becoming progressively easier. You’ll then pass by the Dreischusterhütte again, where you can stop for a break, and take the final, more fluid trail shortcuts back to the starting point.
