Toblacher Pfannhorn – Hochhorn
Description
The tour starts in Dobbiaco. From here, the route climbs steadily up the Silvester Valley on asphalt and gravel, using the Stoneman route as a template. After passing the Silvesteralm, you come to a military road in the Vallo Alpino, which is unparalleled in terms of technical sophistication and engineering. Perfectly adapted to the topographical conditions, not only is the uphill particularly epic, but also the panorama of the Sesto red walls and the Dolomites. With the Three Peaks in view, the route continues past the Strickberg to the Marchkinkele. Here you have already reached an altitude of 2545 meters above sea level. The route then continues in cross-country style along the ridge past the old Vallo Alpino barracks. A little uphill, a little downhill, the high trail is relatively easy to do and offers good progress for e-bikers in particular. The route then leads up to the Toblacher Pfannhorn, the highest point of the tour at 2663 meters above sea level. A magnificent panoramic view as far as the Villgratner mountains, the Hohe Tauern, the Dolomites and the Rieserferner group is guaranteed on a clear day.
The downhill then runs on difficulty levels S2 to S3. The route continues past old military buildings at Pfanntörl and crosses under the Hochhorn. Then begins an epic trail descent that is second to none. On difficulty levels S1 to S2, the trail leads past the golf courses down to the agricultural buildings. Unfortunately, the military road ends here and you lose about 200 Elevation loss on gravel before you reach trail cut-offs with difficulty S2 and return to the Silvestertal via Kandellen. Afterwards, there are still trail cut-offs and riverside paths for a relaxed roll-out before you finally arrive back in Dobbiaco.
Note: Alternatively, you can also take the descent via the Monte Calvo/Monte Calvo Trail. This is also a former military descent and rides directly down towards Kandellen. However, it should be noted that the trail is difficult to find in the upper section in summer when there is a lot of vegetation.
