Forcella Popena | Ride MTB

Forcella Popena

Monte Popena

The Forcella Popena crossing offers several trail combinations, with the descent on the eastern side towards Lake Misurina offering that certain something.

Description

The route starts at Lago di Misurina, perhaps one of the most scenic mountain lakes in the Alps. It is the perfect start for a short but challenging enduro tour. Head south along the main road before taking the forest road towards Forcella Popena. This ends after around 200 meters in altitude and you can only make progress by pushing or carrying. An old military trail then takes you up to Forcella Popena. Once you reach the top, you are greeted by a ruin nestled in the middle of a breathtaking mountain landscape. It is unimaginable that one of the cruellest wars of all time raged here over 100 years ago. Stone witnesses of the time and the paths that have mutated into trails are the last remnants that ensure peaceful coexistence today. The trail descends directly from the fork at a relatively high level of difficulty S3 to S4 for around 100 meters before crossing the entire mountain ridge at difficulty S2 to Lake Misurina. A full enduro circuit that will push even downhill-oriented bikers to their limits, especially in the upper section.
