Hollbrucker Spitze

Starting in Sillian, East Tyrol, you can reach the Hollbrucker Spitze via the Sillianer Hütte and enjoy a long, varied trail descent with a historical backdrop.

Description

This tour begins in Sillian, East Tyrol, right on the Drau Cycle Path. From there, follow the official cycling route on a gravel path steadily up the northern slopes to the Leckfeldalm mountain inn. Situated at just under 1,900 meters above sea level, the alpine inn offers a magnificent view above the tree line. From there, a cart track—with some very steep sections—continues steadily uphill toward the Sillianer Hütte. From the pass, known as the Leckfeldsattel, an extremely impressive panorama opens up over the Dolomites, as well as toward Sexten and the Upper Puster Valley. Passing the Sillianer Hütte, you continue pedaling and, pushing your mountain bike in sections, make your way up to the Hollbrucker Spitze, where the highest point of the ride is reached. Here, you find yourself in places on the historic trails of the “Vallo Alpino,” which was built in the 1930s and 1940s.&

Then the descent begins. A mix of S1 and S2 difficulty levels leads down toward the Sillianer Hut, crosses south of it, and re-enters Austrian territory in the Leckfeldsattel area. There, you wind your way northward on a sort of high-altitude trail that offers a very smooth and gentle ride. The terrain then becomes somewhat rougher, with sections ranging from S2 to S3 difficulty riding through granite boulders. The seemingly endless trail descent becomes easier and smoother toward the end, eventually leading back to Sillian. This exceptionally impressive ride offers a clear temperature advantage, especially in summer, thanks to the shady north-facing slopes, but in autumn it brings long periods of shade and a cool ascent.
