Toblacher Pfannhorn – Bonner Hütte
Description
The starting point of the tour is Dobbiaco in Val Pusteria/Pustertal. From here, you wind your way along the official Stonman Trail circuit on former roads of the Vallo Alpino defense complex to the highest point of the tour on the Dobbiaco Pfannhorn. As soon as you break through the vegetation barrier on the uphill section of the military road at around 2000 meters above sea level, your mouth is open not only because of the challenging uphill, but also because of the breathtaking panorama of the Dolomites. Especially in autumn, with the colorful larches and forests and the extremely clear air, this is indescribable. Once you arrive at Marchkinkele on the wide gravel road, you change to a former Alpini trail, which is also part of the Vallo Alpino defense complex. On difficulty levels S1 to S2, the route takes you up and down past former barracks, past Blankenstein and Ternegg, until you finally have to push/carry the last few meters to the Toblacher Pfannhorn. The summit (2663 meters above sea level) is relatively gently embedded and also offers the best panorama as the highest point of the tour.
The descent runs on difficulty levels S1 to S2 directly along the ridge to the south to the Bonner Hütte. From the Bonner Hütte, the route then follows the high trail, somewhat narrowly along the meadows in a similar trail style, before you have to give up a few meters in altitude for a short time on the feeder road. You then take the forest and meadow path, which turns out to be a flowing trail and rides down to the ascent variant of the Stoneman Trail. From here, you then head back down the valley floor on asphalt for a few meters before collecting the last trail meters along the hiking trail next to the river.Note: Essentially a relatively doable e-bike tour, but the summit section is once again challenging in the Uphil. If you are completing the tour on an e-bike, we recommend crossing the lower section of the Toblacher Pfannhorn and reaching the summit via the west ridge with the push function.
