Plätzwiesen-Trail (Strudelkopf)
Description
Schluderbach lies between Cortina d'Ampezzo and Toblach at the foot of the Strudelkopf. You can get up there on a gravel road past the Dürrenstein hut and over the Strudelkopf saddle. The last few meters up to the summit cross are steeper and narrower, but can be ridden well with a little power reserves. The view from the summit is first-class, especially of the Three Peaks opposite. Our motivation, however, is different: The Strudelkopf is the starting point of the now legendary Prato Piazza trail. This branches off to the right at the Strudelkopfsattel saddle and rides through a racy sea of potholes. There are also a few tight hairpin bends, a sliding passage with holding ropes through a rock face and finally a small trail tunnel. The pushing passage through the rock face is the reason why the route is only suitable for e-mountainbikes to a limited extent. However, if you can hold your bike in one hand, you can also steer into the Prato Piazza trail using a motor. This circles the Strudelkopf on the north side, and after the tunnel you finally head into the technically challenging forest descent down to Dürrensee. You return to Schluderbach on the cycle path. Conclusion: a wonderful and charming half-day tour, which has been somewhat unjustly elevated to legendary status.

The ascent is very relaxed and you don't have to have too much respect for the last meters of altitude to the head. We therefore set off in the direction of Dürrenstein in between but stopped after 300m due to the weather. But in principle you can push up there wonderfully and the descent is worth the ascent. The view must be even better than from the Strudelkopf and it's really beautiful there. I'm just afraid that there are far too many hikers in summer. Even today, with temperatures below zero, snow and in October, there was something going on.
The trail really has everything and I thought it was great. Especially the lower part (possibly less fun in wet conditions). The tricky parts are well secured, we had to push in some of the hairpin bends.
I can highly recommend the tour.
A fantastic tour! Just as easy to ride on an e-bike as on a biobike, as the bike never has to be carried, only pushed, and this on easy but sometimes very exposed terrain. With a head for heights and a love of steep hairpin bends, this is an incredibly beautiful tour.
