Haunoldköpfl

Haunoldköpfl (Innichen)

Small but mighty! The Haunoldköpfl lies inconspicuously above San Candido/Innichen, but offers a first-class landscape experience with views of the Three Peaks and a great singletrail descent, which you have to earn first.

Description

The start of the tour is harmless and rides on the cycle path upstream along the Sextenbach stream. As soon as you reach the main road, keep right and climb up the gravel road into the Untertal valley to reach the Innicher Alm, which is no longer used. A short section of trail now takes you to the single trail that rides up to Haunoldköpfl. With an e-mountain bike or strong thighs, you can ride uphill again and again until you have to carry your bike for the last section. This feat of strength is worth it for two reasons: Firstly, from up here there is a sensational view of Alta Pusteria with San Candido and Sesto, opposite the Dreischusterspitze and in the background the rock towers of the Three Peaks. Secondly, the singletrail descent, which lies on the ascent route and is an unparalleled source of fun. Varied, flowy, tricky, everything is included. This is how you get back down to the lower valley and then climb back up the gravel road to Monte Baranci (top station of the chairlift). The reason for this second feat of strength is the subsequent and final descent to San Candido - a wonderfully flowing and less demanding trail on soft forest soil. This final trail is the wonderful conclusion to an inconspicuous but fantastic singletrail tour right on the outskirts of San Candido.

Note: There are many hikers on this route, especially in high season. That's why we recommend riding the route in the late afternoon. This is when most of the pedestrians are back in the valley and the Dolomite towers are particularly beautifully illuminated in the low evening light.
