Monte Castelcucco

Monte Castelcucco (Garda)

Sporty trails await you on this difficult tour. The crowning glory is the racy, blocked descent on Monte Castelcucco into the Adige Valley.

Description

This tour starts in Caprino Veronese and rides along small asphalt roads up to Malga Valfredda. After the eleven-kilometre climb, turn right past Malga Valfredda onto a gravel road. After one kilometer, the hiking trail 656 branches off to the left, which you ride up a little over the alpine meadows. The first part of the wonderful descent begins at the top of the saddle. It gets very steep in the forest and you have to look for the trail. At a fork in the road, keep right and soon the 656 climbs again briefly until you reach the SP8 at the bottom and head up to the left. The route now follows the SP8 for just over five kilometers. Leave the SP8 at Ristorante al Cacciatore and continue riding on the right until you turn left at Passo del Casello.

Past the building, the rapid Spaccabraccia descent begins. Initially a cart track, this soon becomes a trail. High above the Adige Valley, you ride exposed along the slope of Monte Castelcucco. The increasingly steep trail has a few rocky steps, but everything is easy to ride. At Pian di Festa, you come to a forest road. Ignoring the prohibition signs, you ride past a house and after about two kilometers the trail continues to the left. Steep with a few hairpin bends, it once again demands your full concentration. At the end, you arrive in Rivalta and pedal along the canal back to Caprino Veronese.
