Monte Joanaz on the Italian-Slovenian border offers a fun trail descent on the north side through the Robidišče Trail Park.

Description

Start in Podbela near Kobarid in the Soca Valley by driving up the asphalt road to the state border and following it a little further. Then turn left and climb up to Monte Joanaz. First a nice stretch again on asphalt, then to the right on a gravel road, which is a bit bumpy in between before you reach the summit region on a well-built gravel road. The summit is wooded and unspectacular, but there are beautiful panoramic views of the wide open spaces around Udine with the Mediterranean Sea in the background.

The descent is via the north side with a crisp start. The path is very steep but easy to ride. You're a bit stuck on the brakes until it soon becomes much smoother and you whizz through the dense forest, reaching the border post that you passed on the way up. Now you climb up again on the asphalt road to the village of Robidišče and a little later head into the small, handmade trail park. There are numerous options here, the trails are signposted and marked. This will take you to the foot of the trail park and the starting point of the tour.
