Monte Lema Trails

Monte Lema

Monte Lema with its mountain railroad is a beautiful excursion destination in the Lugano region and offers mountain bikers three crisp singletrail descents. Those looking for challenging freeride fun away from built downhill trails and bike parks will get their money's worth on Monte Lema.

Description

The first of the three Monte Lema descents rides along the south ridge and is the most flowing of all three variants. You first circle the summit on the north side and head down the singletrail to the Passo di Monte Faëta. Here you roll downhill on a forest road for a few meters and then branch off to the left onto a singletrail that rides up and down to a small road. Climb up this road for a few meters and then take the next trail on the right. This leads quickly and roughly back to the road, where the next trail begins after a few meters on the left. This leads to the edge of the forest above Miglieglia, from where you ride back along the road to the valley station of the mountain railroad. This begins at the Forcola d'Arasio just north of Monte Lema. The first part of the descent is very challenging with lots of descents and hairpin bends. From Alpe Tramboschino, the descent becomes easier and faster. After countless bends, you reach a gravel road, where you turn left after a few meters and roll back to Miglieglia on a mix of trails and small roads.
Now it's time for descent number three - the most challenging of all three routes. The route takes you along the trail directly below the mountain railroad - a rough and demanding single trail with many hairpin bends in the upper section. The trail requires a very good riding technique and sufficient suspension travel and leads to Alpe Boscone, where after a few meters on the road you come to the final section of the first descent of the day. You then follow this path back to Miglieglia.

Rode on 24.9.23
Trail 1, same opinion as Sven, a bit too much gravel road, lower part was ok, the way back drags.
Trail 2, upper part technical and blocked, a bit more flow at the bottom.
Trail 3, liked best, but was also demanding and technical (tight turns, steps, blocked and roots, Ticino like :-)

Greetings
Thorsten

We rode the first two descents. The first was disappointing, lots of loose gravel and not much flow. Only the steep part just before the campsite and a little later are cool. The second descent is really fun if you like technical, blocked challenges.

Rode on 26.04. Mega trails. Trail 1 for rolling in, trail 2 very rough, technical and steep. Ticket seller from the cable car looked at us with big eyes when we arrived back at him. Trail 3 narrow, steep and at risk of falling. You should be able to or dismount. Attention half-fare for a single ride but not possible for the whole day. If you "only" want to ride 3 times, it's cheaper this way ;)

We found the second descent more difficult to ride than the third. Some of the sections there are quite bumpy. You can't find the first descent without a GPS, but it's worth it - all 3 descents in combination are really great.
