Marathon-WM 2003

In 2003, the mountain bike world championships in the marathon discipline were held in Lugano for the first time. Thomas Frischknecht won back then. The route is still a beautiful mountain bike tour today.

Description

From the Cornaredo football stadium, the route initially leads to Comano and along the signposted mountain bike route (Route 66) to Sala-Capriasca. Now you climb up, pass Monte Bigorio on the east side and finally reach the Gola di Lago plateau. Climb up to the Motto della Croce on a single trail. Many people will be pushing their bikes here, and some racers didn't ride everything here during the World Championships. You later reach the Monte Bar hut on the little road and follow the signposted route to Piandanazzo. Turn right here and head downhill on a trail until you reach a forest road. Follow this to the Monte Bar road, ride downhill to Borisio and finally reach the village of Tesserete on singletrails. A little further east than on the outward journey, you finally return to Comano, take the trail to Gane and finally return to the football stadium along the Cassarate stream.
