Palfris - Spina-Trail
Description
The tour starts in Flums - but there is no time for a long roll-in. From Berschis, it's already time to get down to business: you climb along numerous bends on an asphalt road to the Kurhaus and then continue on gravel up to Alp Gastilun. A detour to the mountain flank is worthwhile - the view of Lake Walen is simply magnificent. The ascent continues on a meadow single trail to Alpeli and finally to the Stralrüfi mountain restaurant, the highest point of the tour.
An easy descent on gravel to the Palfris mountain inn follows. Although a descent begins directly below the restaurant, it is marked with two no-entry signs. It is therefore better to follow the gravel road a little further and then turn right onto the official trail. A wide path rides down to Alp Hinterspina - the start of the Spinaweg trail. There is also a large (but still homologated) prohibition sign here. The descent is now really exciting: the trail is steep, winding and runs through extremely sloping terrain. Impressive views of the upper Walensee open up again and again. The serpentine route takes you downhill to Heiligkreuz. The return trip to Flums is a relaxed ride along the Seez - a peaceful end to a challenging and scenic tour.

At Berghaus Palfries there are two prohibition signs that cannot be overlooked. These can be bypassed via the Tschuggnersäss. The "old" prohibition sign is at the start of the Spinaweg. However, dealing with the (few) hikers on the trail was very relaxed.
Attempted on 30.8.23. The descent is closed until further notice due to a landslide. And there is a ban on bicycles at the start of the descent. We then descended via the Berghaus Gonzen.
Rode today on Whit Monday, no prohibition signs and only overtook 2 very nice hikers on the way down. Brake-heavy but beautiful.
Mh I was there in spring, unfortunately there was still a lot of snow. A wet snow avalanche had buried the Spina Trail in the middle. It should be gone by now. The trail isn't bad, but I found it rather steep - unfortunately you're often on the brakes. Very slippery when there is a lot of foliage, especially on steep sections. Watch out for hikers from the front, so be careful with your speed.
From the Rest. Palfries there are already two new bike ban signs on the trail down the slope... I don't suppose you're allowed to ride down there?!
Rode today. Including a detour to Gonzen - which, by the way, can be ridden almost all the way down if you carry the bike up. The spinach trail is fun and now a bit more challenging due to all the foliage. Unfortunately, I've never seen so many no biking signs in one day...
