Hüenerchopf

The technically easy but scenically fascinating tour from Sargans rides to the foot of the Hüenerchopf and back through the Weisstannental valley.

Description

The ascent is not without its challenges: there are over 1300 vertical meters to conquer in one go. Most of it is ridden on a small road, which makes things a little easier. From Sargans, you initially follow the cycle path to Mels and then the Mountainbikeland route 473 up to Vermol. Shortly before the mountain village, the route branches off to the right, and not without reason: the Chäpfensee, a wonderfully small mountain lake in the middle of the wooded high plateau, is located nearby. Just above the lake, you leave the official mountain bike route, reach Vermol and follow a mountain road to the lower Alp Tamons. Here the ascent is almost complete. The descent leads directly into the Weisstannental valley, always on an alpine path and always easy to ride. The little road winds downhill to Steinegg, after which you follow the little road out of the valley. Just above Mels, you reach another official mountain bike route, but then immediately turn left and reach the center of Mels on single trails. Through the residential areas, Sargans is just a short hop on the map.
