Il Bric – Passo Peroni

Il Bric – Passo Peroni

The Val Stura, the connecting valley between Italy and France, has seen countless monarchies and empires over the centuries. In the 1940s, a massive military installation was built over the entire area, making the tour over the Passo Peroni a highlight.

Description

The mountain bike tour starts in the picturesque village of Bersezio, close to the French border and not far from the Colle della Maddalena ski area. From here, a relaxed ride on the asphalt road, surrounded by imposing mountain ridges, leads to Lake Argentera and on to the Col de Larché/Colle della Maddalena. At the pass, leave the asphalt road and continue on a cross-path that rides below the Tête des Blaves to Lac de l'Orrenaye. Most of this section can be pedaled, but some sections require pushing or carrying.

The route continues to Colle di Roburent, a border crossing with a historic boundary stone that points the way further east. At the idyllically situated Lago Superiore di Roburent, the first descent begins with a difficulty of S1 and S2, which rides almost as far as Lago Mediano di Roburent. Here the bike is pushed again and an old military path follows up to Passo Peroni. The last few meters to the pass are sandy and somewhat strenuous, but easy to manage.

From Passo Peroni, the path rides to the casemate below Il Bric, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view. The road construction in this area is impressive. The following section from the casemate is very difficult and exposed (S5), followed by easier sections (S1, S2) uphill and downhill past the Bivacco Le Due Valli. A fantastic descent along a military road leads to the next crossing, Colle Oserot at 2640 meters. Here you carry your bike again and follow an old military road. At Colle Oserot, you will find the last remains of the Vallo Alpino, which were partially blown up by the partisans.

The actual descent begins at Colle Oserot and offers a difficulty of S1 and S2. The trail leads spectacularly downhill to Bassa Terra Rossa, where there are numerous casemates and military buildings along the ridge. The landscape here is of exceptionally high quality and is hard to find anywhere else in the Alps. From the Bassa Terra Rossa, a fascinating Alpini trail rides down in the finest hairpin bend style, with barbed wire to watch out for in the upper area below the bunkers. The tour finally ends in Bersezio, where it began.

We rode part of the tour from Fouillouse via Lago Oserot and Lagi di Roburent on 08.07.2025, but then rode down via Lago inferiore di Roburent - La Tinetta - Argentera. Beautiful landscape.

Scenic beauty to the max. You have to work your way through the whole thing with two challenging stretches.
