Licony
Description
From Morgex you roll to Villair, where the gravel ascent begins just above the last houses. A steep path winds its way upwards here, bend by bend, until you reach Alp Fenêtre and then have another 400 meters of steep ascent ahead of you. Some of the sections are so steep that they had to be asphalted so that they could be negotiated by vehicle. However, the entire ascent to Alp Licony can be tackled by bike. Only after the alp, where the road turns into a singletrail, do you have to push and ride another 200 meters in altitude. Finally, the highest point is reached at a dilapidated alp with a wonderful view of Mont Blanc and down to the uppermost part of the Aosta Valley. The descent is also spectacular. This initially rides on a trail through the steep meadow terrain. It then descends on many serpentine bends, some of which are barely rideable in the upper section or only rideable with the rear wheel turned. Once you reach the forest, however, the path becomes smoother. It soon meanders through the forest as a world-class flow trail, repeatedly interrupted by easy switchbacks. The trail descends without a climb and ends in the vineyards above Lavanchers. From here, you roll the short distance back to Morgex on small roads.
