Col Citrin

The Col Citrin connects the main valley of the Aosta Valley with the region of the Great Saint Bernard. The route over this inconspicuous pass offers first-class scenery with a treat of a descent for technically experienced mountain bikers.

Description

Ideally, the route starts in Vens. You can reach the small village by shuttle or under your own steam on the mountain road via Saint-Nicolas from Aosta. The first trail begins just behind the village, a silky-smooth high-altitude path into the Valle di Vertosan. At the bottom of the valley you reach a gravel road, which you follow uphill until the path to Col Citrin branches off to the right at the far end of the valley. From here, you have to push your bike up 360 meters to Col Citrin. The view from the summit is fantastic, especially the view towards the Grand Combin and Monte Rosa is exceptional. The downhill trail that now begins is unparalleled fun for good riders. In the initial phase, it meanders smoothly through the high valley, but then becomes increasingly tricky after reaching the tree line. The section in the forest is steep and winding, but easy to ride. Once at the bottom of the valley, you roll down the gravel road to Etroubles, where the long high-level trail towards Aosta begins. This always rides along the right-hand side of the valley towards the main valley. Above the town of Aosta, it then descends and ends right in the center of Aosta.

We can only agree with blackCoffee. A super tour from Vens. It starts brilliantly and ends just as well. The ascent that you push up is quite strenuous, sometimes very steep and very steep, not to be underestimated. Otherwise, the route is absolutely as described, although the high route towards Aosta is also fantastically beautiful. Always in the forest and along Saonen (water pipes). In our opinion, too little attention is paid to this part of the tour in the route description. Many thanks to Ride.ch for this great tour.

Very nice tour. The Col Citrin had been on my shortlist for some time. A fine path to the start of the route, the lonely area and views of the Grand Combin / Monte Rosa are three good reasons to ride over this pass. Now I was able to integrate it perfectly into the Tour du Combin as an additional loop.
There will be a report on my blog soon: http://swissbikeblog.blogspot.com

P.S. The village between Comba di Citrin and Étroubles is called Cerisey.
