Colle Malatra
Description
Many people usually start the tour at the Alp Arp de Joux, which can be reached by car or shuttle. This is located high above Saint-Rhémy and could also be reached under your own steam - but this would make the route extremely tough. The ascent is not without its difficulties. First you ride westwards on a slightly ascending mountain trail, then climb up to Alp Comba de Merdeux and then switch to the trail towards Colle Malatra. From here, the bike has to be pushed and carried. This adds up to a whopping 650 meters in altitude, with the bike having to be carried over steep steps into a rocky gap at the end. It's worth it! Just the view from the top over to Mont Blanc is stunning. Just like the descent through the high alpine mountain landscape. The path is quite technical, but then has longer flowing sections and rides up to the Rifugio Walter Bonatti. Here you reach the well-known high-altitude trail through the Val Ferret, which you follow far above the valley floor towards Courmayeur - always in the face of Mont Blanc. The high-level trail leads to the Rifugio Bertone, where the tricky final section down to Courmayeur begins. This path is a real challenge and ends right on the outskirts of Courmayeur.

if you start from the grand bernhard, the tour is easy to do without a shuttle. it's well worth taking tete de la tranche with you on the descent. but it's better not to start until the evening, otherwise there are a lot of hikers.
