Monte di Sluderno
Description
In Schluderns you climb up a small road, pass Churburg Castle and reach Grein. A wonderful forest path now leads almost flat southwards, you finally reach a small road again, and you climb up this again. At a right-hand hairpin bend at 1660 meters above sea level, you ride straight ahead on a trail, pass a forest clearing and finally reach the small village of Ober Tels. Now it's time for the gravel descent to St. Peter, where the singletrail fun begins. A path leads down through the steep terrain towards Eyrs. Instead of descending to the village, keep right on a gravel path and follow this wonderful high-level trail towards Spondinig. Just above the village you come to the final section, a world-class trail that ends directly at the large traffic circle. Return to Schluderns on the signposted cycle route along the Adige river.

Coolo Tour!
The "Waal-Weg" (Gschneier Waal) after the first big climb surprised us positively - we found it to be a little gem.
However, after the turn-off in the hairpin bend (at 1660 m above sea level), "our" trail then led onto a forest road and then onto the "Vinschger Höhenweg" and back onto the track. This was actually perfect. Of course, descents on asphalt and gravel are not necessarily what you're looking for on an MTB - but I didn't find that too bad. We loved the subsequent trail - a few tricky sections and usually quite narrow. It's a bit exposed at times, but if you adjust your speed and riding style, it's cool and you don't sweat blood. The ups and downs on the last trail add up to a few meters in altitude. On our variant, it was a little more than the description.
My conclusion: definitely worth it!
Up to St. Peter, we found it a boring ride. The trail also loses meters in altitude on gravel and asphalt.
But from St. Peter onwards, it really is a world-class trail as described. Up and down on a sensational single trail. A must-do in the Vintschgau?
The track is unfortunately quite outdated. At the Grein-Hof a little further up to the pumping station, only there does the Waalweg turn off. For the descent from St. Peter you have to be able to shift your rear wheel in your sleep and should also be free from vertigo...
The last trail section to the traffic circle is no longer there, so it's better to take the turn-off to the left towards Eyrs to get down to the main road at the start of Spondinig.
We have updated the track and adapted it to the latest map data.
