Punta di Rims

Punta di Rims

The Dreisprachenspitze in conjunction with Punta di Rims offers high alpine bike character with easy accessibility, a long trail descent and all this in the middle of the Stelvio National Park.

Description

The tour starts at the Umbrail Pass and is perfect as a day tour, or with an e-bike as a half-day tour, to get to know the area around the Stelvio Pass. From the Umbrail Pass, the route heads east towards the Stelvio Pass, following the pass road and then the old Stelvio Pass road up to the hotel complex on a medium gradient. Here it is obvious why there is so much hype about the Stelvio Pass: surrounded by huge mountain massifs, glaciated sections and bizarre rock formations, you pedal towards the summit meter by meter. From the Joch, you take the Goldseeweg trail, which rides very steeply up to the summit of the Dreisprachenspitze. From here, you have an amazing view of the Ortler massif, the Vinschgau Valley, as well as westwards into Switzerland and towards Bormio.

At the Dreisprachenspitze, it's time to get down to business. Helmet and pads on and you surf a trail with a difficulty of S1 to S2 back to the Umbrail Pass. From here, take the path towards Bocchetta di Forcola. Initially a little steep, but later easy to hike, this war trail feels like it goes on forever up to the pass at 2768 meters. Here again you have a tremendous view of the mountains and countless buildings from the First World War in front of you. The route continues along the ridge to Punta di Rims. Once you reach Punta di Rims (an almost 3000-metre bike climb), the mountain panorama is just as impressive and you can't help but be amazed. This place is magnificent and the tours in the Stelvio National Park area for the next time can be easily recognized. The descent itself is at S2 to S3 level back to the Bocchetta di Forcola and then back to the starting point. Also perfect for e-mountain bikes as there are no carrying sections.

Note: The Punta di Rims tour can also be done in conjunction with Piz Umbrail with the ridge crossing and is an interesting alternative to the classic Piz Umbrail ascent variation. The bike must be carried over the ridge.
