Rifugio Cesare Branca – Ghiacciao dei Forni
Description
The route starts in the village of Santa Caterina. From here, you pedal initially on asphalt, later on gravel on a medium and moderate gradient up to the Rifugio Pizzini. The ascent alone is a scenic highlight in the region. Past mountain streams, framed by 3000-metre peaks and massive glacier tongues, everything is served up here visually. From Rifugio Pizzini, the route continues on difficulty levels S1 to S2 to Rifugio Cesare Branca. A rewarding trail descent that feels like it was built especially for bikers. From the Rifugio Cesare Branca, the bike is either pushed or taken below the mighty Forni Glacier. The glacier is in a strong retreat. Here you have the opportunity to make a detour to the "eternal ice". The route then continues on difficulty level S2, occasionally S3, down towards Rifugio Ghiacciao dei Forni. All in all, a homogeneous trail, except for the massive stone steps at the end. Then it's on to the most difficult section of the tour. At difficulty levels S3 to S4, the trail climbs briefly and then descends before the final finish. A varied trail via Cerena leads back to Santa Caterina. If you want to get off the trail descent in the meantime, you can always switch to the ascent route at Cerena or at Rifugio Stella Alpina.

The passage at the Fornigletscher must be carried for 15 minutes (pushing is not possible)! At the top of the crossing you can ride up to the bridges. The descent back to the hiking trail is not rideable for us (S4).
Otherwise a magnificent view - but also lots of hikers,
