Pass da Val Viola
Description
From Livigno, we ride past and up to the Passo d'Eira. On the right-hand side of the road, a flowing singletrail rides down to Ponte del Rex. Here you turn right and follow the gravel road up towards Passo della Vallaccia, although the last 100 meters in altitude have to be covered on foot. From 2614 meters above sea level, the route then descends rapidly into Val Viola, where you turn right and follow the gravel road to the Pass da Val Viola. From here, a singletrail on the Swiss side leads down to Lago da Val Viola and further down to Sfazù. For lack of alternatives, follow this road to Forcola di Livigno. Here, turn right onto the gravel road that rides along the Spöl and past Le Motte. After the Ponte del Verde, a long singletrail leads along the edge of the forest back to Livigno.
Alternative: Instead of losing a lot of energy on the ascent to the Passo della Vallaccia, ride along the main road over the Passo di Foscagno to Arnoga and then climb up to Val Viola.

Very nice tour until you reach the pass road in Puschlav. From there up to the Forcola di Livigno on the road is a real pain. It's better to take the post bus from there (perhaps a little more difficult with the new reservation requirement) or ride the trails down to Poschiavo and from there take the post bus or train up to the Bernina Pass. From there you can ride a trail on the left side of the valley towards Poschiavo. And before the pass road branches off to Forcola di Livigno, this trail crosses the Bernina Pass road and branches off to the left towards Forcola. You then ride on the right (left in the direction of travel) side of the valley and then come down to the pass road to Forcola on a trail. You then have to ride a short distance to Forcola.
I rode the tour on July 19, 2019.
The ascent to Vallacia is relatively steep and gets steeper from meter to meter until I had to walk the last few meters. The subsequent downhill is then quite rough and littered with loose stones until you reach a forest road. As soon as you reach the forest, a wonderfully flowing forest trail leads down to the right, definitely better than losing the meters in altitude (according to the track) on the road. It then climbs very pleasantly up to the passo and then a great trail down to the lake. From Camp it gets quite rough and technical again and again, but almost everything is rideable. At point 1757, I took the trail via Lagüzzon to la Rösa, but this section is not recommended (lots of pushing/carrying). This somewhat dampened my enthusiasm for experimenting, so I rode a few meters on the pass road. But I left the road again at Plan da la Rösa and rode uphill in the opposite direction on the signposted bike path. This was also relatively steep but rideable. This left just over 200 meters on the pass road to the Forcola di Livigno. However, the way back to Livigno was largely disappointing. Personally, I would at least ride back on the other side of the valley from Ponte Lungo.
Conclusion: Great tour in great surroundings, but the final descent from Forcola di Livigno was disappointing.
I ride a Scott Spark 900RC and am usually in the head group on the uphill; downhill I'm always the last one by a long way.
The trail up Vallaggia is not very steep and the bike can be pushed.
The forcla Livigno road could also be covered by bus up to the pass road from Sfazü.
