Livigno-Rundtour
Description
The tour starts in Pontresina with the warm-up section to Morteratsch, where the more challenging part begins. First you overcome the step to Bernina Suot and then climb up the Val da Fain on an alpine road. At the small crossing at the end of this valley, you switch to Italian soil and head down the steep and tricky trail to the main road to Livigno. Follow this road for a few meters until you reach Livigno on the right-hand side of the road via single trails, farm tracks and asphalted single trails. The return journey to the Engadin begins at the lake with the steep ascent through the Valle di Federia to the Chaschauna pass. Normal mountain bikers push their bikes in the upper section, but none of the pros get off the saddle here. The descent to Alp Chuschauna now leads along a singletrail, after which you reach S-chanf via a mix of trail and alpine road on the left side of the valley. You now return to Pontresina along the signposted mountain bike route.

Did the tour on 29.06.2024. In the direction of La Stretta there are still a few old snow or snow slide fields. But all in all well doable. However, the descent to Livigno is very steep, as the stairs are pretty much dismantled due to snow slides. The ground is also very soft due to the rain and snow. Caution is advised here. Technically very experienced bikers can probably ride everything. For the rest, the lower two thirds are rideable.
The Chaschauna ascent is practically snow-free. However, the flow trail down to Engading still has a few large patches of snow. The snow is very slushy and the snow fields are not rideable due to the gradient. Here you have to push or carry. However, you can bypass certain sections directly. But not everything.
Very cool tour! However, in the current conditions, you shouldn't have burned all your energy on the Chaschauna Pass. The first 200m on the snowfields are no walk in the park ;-) The scenery is a dream!
Great tour, rode it last week. However, the descent from Val da Fain is only for experts, with steep steps and hairpin bends. We pushed carefully; the lower third was then easy to ride. In wet conditions, I would only recommend this "descent" to the brave, even on foot, as the descent is steep. Otherwise the tour was great, the trail down from Chaschauna is super flowy and great fun.
A little tip: don't eat too much or too heavily in Livigno, because it gets really steep later on. (between 16 and 27%) I clearly felt my pizzocherie. All in all, a top tour with lots of panoramic views and great trails!
Great tour
We started the tour on the Carosello3000 (Livigno) with a great singletrail down into the Valle di Federia. We were able to save a few meters uphill and collect a few additional trail kilometers. From Chaschauna a new trail rides down into the valley, GPS file no longer quite correct. The old trail has been dismantled and is no longer rideable or visible. In Zuoz you could ride the public transport in the direction of Diavolezza.
The trail from La Stretta down to the main road Forcola di Livigno is not rideable for "mere mortals". Steps, hairpin bends, loose scree and all this on very steep terrain. Otherwise great, highly recommended!
