Fuorcla Surlej

Fuorcla Surlej

The Fuorcla Surlej is an insider tip among mountain bikers, but is only recommended for experienced riders. The tour impresses with a phenomenal glacier backdrop.

Description

The starting point is Pontresina, from where you head through the Stazerwald forest to St. Moritz and climb up to the Olympic ski jump. Via Lej Nair and Lej Zuppò you reach Surlej. Now begins the long ascent to Fuorcla Surlej. Passing Alp Surlej, you reach the arena-like plateau and finally continue up to the mountain inn on Fuorcla Surlej. The panorama here is unique, the Bernina massif opposite is close enough to touch. The descent now rides along the single trail into the Rosegtal valley. This trail is very demanding, interspersed with large drops and extremely steep, especially in the upper section. For the ride to Pontresina, you will later have to use the alpine road because the single trail running parallel to it is prohibited for mountain bikes.

Tip: The Corvatsch gondola lift can be used for the ascent to Fuorcla Surlej. Bike transport is possible on the first connection in the morning and on the last connection in the late afternoon.

I did this tour on 17.07.2022. A must for technology freaks! My recommendation: Corvatsch cable car (open to bikers from 3.15 pm) to Murtèl and then the normal corridor road up to the pass. Down to the Roseg is a real treat for technical bikers.

Did the tour today. Riding technique 5 points fits. For technicians a hallelujah and 99% of everything rideable...it was great. But for fitness 3 points...no...this should easily be 4!!!

Wonderful views and a great technical descent with a few passages of pushing! We liked it much better than the Hahnenseetrail. A stop at the Roseg restaurant/hotel is a must (gigantic cake buffet).

Mountain bikes are transported on the 1st section (Surlej - Murtèl). However, this is only with the first train at 08.25 and from 16.25. The price per bike is CHF 8.

Challenging tour against a breathtaking (!) backdrop. One of my personal top 5.
