Coaz-Hütte
Description
The tour to the Coaz hut starts early in the morning in Surlej with the gondola ride to Murtèl. This cable car only takes bikers on the first and last ride every day. The gondola ride is recommended because you should use your full power reserves on the technically demanding hut trail. The start of the tour is less spectacular on a gravel road through the Corvatsch ski area. As soon as you reach Fuorcla Surlej, however, the natural and trail spectacle begins. The trail leads into Val Roseg and is technically very demanding, with the glacier world of Piz Bernina as the backdrop. There are always flowy sections on the trail, but on most sections, you have to find a rideable line between the rocks. The trail is a fun challenge for very good riders in front of an almost unbeatable panorama. At the hut, it's time for refreshments before returning along the same route. The path is much easier to ride in this direction, and after a bridge you head down to the valley floor. The initial flow trail eventually becomes technical again and winds its way down through the larch path. Finally, you reach the Hotel Roseggletscher and now head out along the left bank of the Val Roseg to Pontresina.
The return journey to Surlej is next. You can either follow the signposted bike routes or combine the route with the super trail from Muottas da Schlarigna. To do this, you climb up to Lej da Staz, continue to Alp da Staz and finally push your bike 250 meters up a path. The effort is worth it: the upcoming singletrail to God San Gian is an unparalleled fun ride! Here you are back on the signposted mountain bike route, on which you roll back to Surlej.

From Fuorcla Surlej we followed the left-hand path directly down into Val Roseg (see comment Fuorcla Surlej) and then along the valley floor back down into the valley. Initially easy to ride, then completely blocked in the former glacier area. We started the ascent at the Lej da Vadret lake: 500m with the bike on our shoulders. At Plattas, we were no longer in the mood for the hut and instead started the descent. However, it was hardly rideable as there were lots of bumps. Only after many more meters of pushing did it become a little more flowy. It was only from Pt. 2519 to Alp Ota that the riding became more enjoyable. Then again a lot of blocked and hardly rideable also in the forest up to Rest. Val Roseg. Cake stop there as a compulsory program. Forest road down to Pontresina and another 400 m climb. In my opinion, it would be better to ride down this ascent than to push the bike laboriously over the most beautiful root passages to finally ride a traverse rather than a trail to Surlej.

Has anyone already done the tour this year? I'm planning it for next week? What interests me: is everything snow-free? :-)
We rode the tour the day before yesterday, but skipped the detour to the Coaz hut and went straight to Pontresina so that we could ride the La Rösa Trail in the afternoon!
The route is really extremely challenging and requires extremely good riding technique. But even the best technique is useless in many places and you have to push for better or worse. If it weren't for the absolutely breathtaking panorama, you'd be swearing all the time. But as it is, you forget your displeasure every time and marvel at the landscape.
The descent into the Roseg Valley is also energy-sapping and increasingly difficult to ride. Once at the bottom, we first enjoy the good trails, but soon get bored on the wide gravel paths back to Pontresina. Fortunately, our afternoon was a complete success in terms of the trails, so we will remember this tour above all for the view. Next time we'll do the tour without the bike and hike the beautiful route ;)
