Piz Languard

Piz Languard

Piz Languard (3263 m above sea level) is one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains in the Upper Engadine - and not doable by mountain bike. However, it can be combined into a first-class bike&hike route, which should only be done at off-peak times or in the off-season due to the many hikers.

Description

The route to Piz Languard starts in Pontresina and then climbs up the Montebello bend towards the Bernina Pass. In Bernina Suot, turn left onto the gravel road up into Val da Fain. This is a well-known mountain bike route, but we leave it again after just a few meters to climb up a trail to Fuorcla Pischa. Here the bike is carried almost 600 meters in altitude. The rest of the tour makes up for the exertions! We start with the wonderful single trail along the Crasta Languard, which climbs slightly up to the turn-off to the summit. Here you leave your bike and walk to the summit. The reason for this is the stunning view of the Bernina massif. However, the path is so steep and rocky that it would only be rideable by bike for a short stretch. After returning from the summit, the fun goes into the next dimension: the trail down to Alp Languard is out of this world, as is the subsequent descent back to Pontresina.

Beware: there are a lot of hikers in this area, and mountain bikers are not particularly welcome in the Languard region. Therefore, out of consideration, the route should only be ridden at off-peak times or in the off-season!

Tip: Spend the night in the Chamanna Georgy, enjoy the sunrise on the summit and then ride down to Pontresina before all the hikers.
