Schiazzera-Trail
Description
The actual starting point of the tour is the parking lot just below the Rifugio Schiazzera. A small road rides up to here and also allows shuttle rides. This saves you almost 1600 meters in altitude. The section from the parking lot up to the Rifugio is then so steep that even e-mountain bikers are forced to push. However, this section is quite short. After the Rifugio, it remains rough, but the path is less steep and you soon reach the Schiazzera Trail, which rides downhill to the left.
The trail down to Sovo is flowing at S1 level. Many long serpentine bends alternate with longer straights. A problem-free trail with great fun potential. You reach the Sovo group of houses and then roll down a stretch of gravel road until a marked path branches off to the left. This somewhat rougher gravel road leads down to a small road, where you then switch back to singletrail mode. This time a little rougher. The route is interrupted from time to time by short gravel sections, but ultimately leads down a racy, steep descent to Baruffini. You now fly down through the vineyards to Tirano on a mix of trails and roads.

I rode the Schiazzera trail today (July 2025)... I recommend the lunch at Rifugio Schiazzera. The hut is part of the Italian Alpine Club and is staffed by super friendly unpaid volunteers. Great atmosphere and food.
The trail is the flowiest and easiest of the trails I have done in Valtellina. Mostly S1 with a couple of short difficult sections two thirds down where RIDE's track goes off from the official Schiazzera trail (marked with red bike signs along the route.)
It rained a lot the night before I rode it, but the trail was still very rideable and there were hardly any slippery roots.
Long story short, very flowy, a bit too easy, and if I was only here for a day or two I would do Val Belvisio instead. That ride is incredible!
Unfortunately, the upper part from the hut has been completely leveled by an excavator
