The Rifugio Casati near the Monte Cevedale summit offers a high-alpine trail tour that leads back to the start of the glacier and to the valley floor near Santa Caterina on a technical trail.

Description

The route starts in Santa Caterina. From here, you wind your way up the relatively steep asphalt road to the Rifugio Alb. Ghiacciaio dei Forni uphill. From this point, the route continues on gravel in the same manner. Every turn of the cranks takes you further into the high alpine mountain world. Framed by mighty 3000-metre peaks and glacier tongues, you fight your way up to the Rifugio Pizzini. After the Rifugio Pizzini, you can still pedal for a few meters before finally climbing up to the Rifugio Casati at over 3200 meters above sea level. Once you reach the Rifugio, the world is practically at your feet. A rich 360-degree panorama opens up in every direction, framed by the incredible glacier massif of Monte Cevedale.

The descent is initially on difficulty S2 to S3 down the military path from the First World War from the ascent to the Rifugio Pizzini. It is not for nothing that this trail is considered one of the best in the entire Alpine region. From Rifugio Pizzini, it's all about flow for the first few kilometers. You cross the entire mountain ridge below the Passo Zebrú. Only after a few kilometers do you take a sharp left and then surf down a trail of difficulty S1 to S2 to the starting point. Conclusion: All in all, a great day tour in the midst of the alpine mountain world of the Ortler massif. The high alpine impressions and the landscape of bizarre rock formations are particularly impressive on this tour.
