Passeier Almentour

Passeiertal

The long tour to the Alps on the northern flanks of the Passeier Valley is a great tour for fit mountain bikers with a flair for crisp singletrail descents. The shady location makes it a particularly good route in midsummer.

Description

The starting point of the route is St. Leonhard im Passeier, from where you cycle up to Platt on the little-used asphalt road from the Brückenwirt. Continue along the road in the direction of the Pfelderer Valley to Ausserhütt. This is the end of the energy-saving rolling on asphalt; take the gravel path on the left up to the Farmazon Alm, 400 meters further up. It's worth stopping here for refreshments, especially as the descent ahead is not without its challenges. The alpine trail follows the valley floor, but is anything but a flow highway (level S2 with many S3 sections). Experienced mountain bikers will have fun here. Further down, you enter the forest and the trail becomes somewhat smoother, with the stones now replaced by roots. Along the Urlärchenweg (S2 trail), you descend to Tasach.

Now the 400-metre ascent up to the Untere Ulfaser Alm begins and with it the second part of the tour. The ascent rides on asphalt for long stretches and on a gravel road with a pleasant gradient in the upper section. At the Ulfaser Alm, the same applies as before at the Farmazon Alm: refreshments are required. Here, too, the upcoming descent requires full concentration. First you follow a rather harmless rooty Waal path, which shows its teeth after the Waaler Hütte. A steep path (typical of the Passeriertal!) leads down to Christl. Again and again interspersed with tricky sections, hairpin bends and carpets of roots. As soon as you reach a relaxing phase, the next challenge (S3 trail) is just a few meters away. After the hamlet of Christl, things become smoother and the further you fly towards the valley floor, the easier the route becomes. You ride down to the banks of the Passeier and take the cycle path back to St. Leonhard for the last few meters.
