Rorschacher Berg

The Rorschacherberg towers high above Lake Constance and is the basis for a varied bike route over the mountain ridge and the descent through the Goldachtobel ravine.

Description

From Rorschach, the route leads up to St. Anna Castle, then a country road climbs gently up to Hof and Wartensee. Immediately after the railroad tracks, keep right onto a forest path until you reach a large forest clearing, from where a singletrack trail follows the hilltop up to the railroad station. Continue uphill on an asphalt road, always following the hilltop of the Rorschacherberg to Fürschwendi and Höchi. A singletrail begins here, continuing along the hilltop to the Martinsbrücke bridge at the gates of St. Gallen. From here, you ride parallel to the Goldachbach stream along forest paths, single trails and asphalt roads to the village of Goldach and back to Rorschach.

I rode the trail with my wife yesterday. Me on an enduro bike, my wife on an E-MTB. The good news first. The tour is not very demanding, but is peppered with great views of Lake Constance. If you take your time and have a chat with the locals, you'll find that the people of Eastern Switzerland are emphatic, curious and hospitable. Extremely likeable! Now for the less pleasant part. How can you give this tour five points for the overall impression? The bit of singletrail at Mörderhölziweg is done within a minute. After that......boring forest trails! My conclusion: a tour like this has little right to exist in this collection of super trails.

The descent through the Wittobel is pretty cool (it's in the description as an alternative). Almost only single trails.
