Isskogel (Gerlos)

The Isskogel near Gerlos is an interesting panoramic mountain that offers a varied and sometimes technical descent in combination with a rich mountain panorama.

Description

The tour starts at the Isskogelbahn valley station. From here, you can either tackle the ascent yourself in the traditional way or use the Isskogelbahn as a shuttle. For those who want to tackle the ascent under their own steam, a classic forest road leads steadily up through the ski area. Once you have passed the Isskogelbahn cable car, follow the official "Isskogel Wilde Krimml" cycle route further and further uphill. The artificial reservoir near the Isskogel, which is particularly suitable for a rest in summer, offers an inviting stopover before continuing gently up to the Isskogel, the highest point of the tour. A summit cross and the epic view of the Zillertal mountains and the 3000-metre peaks of the main Alpine ridge on the Austrian-Italian border confirm the ascent.

The subsequent descent is also very attractive. First of all, it goes through hairpin bends and over loose gravel with difficulty levels S1 to S2 before you reach the Latschensee lake. After the Latschensee lake, the trail becomes more challenging: here, the trail leads over roots, hairpin bends, some steep steps and ledges down to the Latschenalm, reaching difficulty level S3 in places.

A stop at the Latschenalm is a good idea before you rejoin the official bike park route and reach the "Iss-Flow". Overall, you can ride a combination of "Iss Natural", "Iss Flow" and "Iss Vertical" and vary according to your mood. The difficulty level of this descent is between S1 and S2, with classic bike park elements such as banked turns and jumps. Finally, you roll the last few meters on asphalt back to the starting point and finish the tour.
