Rastkogel-Umrundung

Rastkogel-Umrundung

Very challenging and long tour through the Zillertal Alps and the ski resorts of Hochfügen and Mayrhofen with sensational views of the main Alpine ridge. Most of the ride is on forest roads supplemented with smaller trail sections.

Description

You start the tour in Schwaz and ride steeply up to the Loassattel. Now continue to Hochfügen. At the end of the valley, turn right towards Pfundsalm, Sidanjoch. The forest road rides past the Pfundsalm to the Pfundsalm Hochleger. The road ends here and you have to push up to the Sidanjoch. Once at the top, turn left to the Rastkogelhütte and follow a short, not too difficult trail to the hut. A rest is recommended here, as you still have some way to go. Now roll down to the Zillertaler Höhenstrasse and ride downhill on this road for a few hairpin bends. Then follow the gravel road to the right up to the Penken ski area in Mayrhofen. Pass the 150-passenger gondola and ride up very steeply until you reach the Penken plateau and continue right to the Wanglalm.

The descent towards Lanersbach begins at the Wanglalm. However, don't ride all the way down so as not to lose too much altitude and keep to the right until you reach the Geiselalm. This is where the ascent to the Geiseljoch begins, after a while the forest road turns into a path and you have to push the last few meters to the Geiseljoch. At the pass, the trail begins, which is not too difficult, down to the Nafingalm and on to the beautiful Weidener Hütte, where you can stop for a bite to eat. Then follow the forest road until shortly before Innerst, where you descend steeply onto a small trail that rides to the Innerst parking lot. Follow the tarred road through Weerberg and on to Pillberg and you will soon reach the starting point in Schwaz.

Tip: If you want to turn this tour into a two-day tour, it is best to spend the night in Lanersbach.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
