Wiedersberger Horn – Ridge-Ride
Description
This challenging mountain bike tour starts in Brixlegg in the Inntal valley, where you can travel there comfortably by train. From there, the route rides on asphalt through the town center and on to a feeder road to Reith im Alpbachtal, where the ascent begins. This first part of the uphill is still moderate, but becomes steeper and more challenging after the change from asphalt to gravel. Past the Hechenblaikenalm, there is already an impressive panorama that makes the steep climb up to the Kohlgrubenalm worthwhile.
After a short stop at the reservoir, ideal for cooling off in the summer months, you reach the mountain station of the Wiedersberger Horn cable car. This area is very busy with tourists and a large number of hikers and other mountain sports enthusiasts should be expected. The trail continues to the Brandegglift mountain station, where you leave the forest and gravel path. The last few meters up to the Hornalm require carrying and pushing the bike.
From the Hornalm, the bike is carried to the summit of the Wiedersberger Horn. The summit offers breathtaking views that reward the effort of the ascent. The descent begins challenging with technical passages of difficulty levels S3 and S4 along the ridge, with two particularly tricky sections having to be tackled on foot.
The route then rides along a tempting trail towards Luderstein, with sections between S1 and S3, before continuing steeply through the forest, interrupted by root passages and short gravel sections. After a short stretch on the gravel road, you return to the Hechenblaikenalm via the trail. From there, you unfortunately have to cover a few meters in altitude on the gravel road until a small intermediate ascent to the Reither Kogel and finally an exciting trail leads back down into the valley.
The entire tour is physically and technically challenging and should only be tackled by experienced bikers. Please note in particular that the summit area is very busy when the Wiedersberger Horn cable car is in operation.
Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
