Rote-Wand-Steig

Rote Wand

After a long ascent, you have to carry and push your bike up the Rote Wand near Innsbruck. The descent is initially very demanding and technical and then gets easier and easier. Via Wattenberg, the seemingly endless trail leads down to Wattens.

Description

The tour starts in Wattens and you ride up the tarred road to Wattenberg. The very long tarred driveway leads past the Wildstättn lift and then soon becomes a forest road. The forest road continues uphill until it ends after a right-hand fork. Here, a narrow, almost unrecognizable track leads very steeply up the mountain. Further up, you come to the Rote Wand trail and can either descend it straight away or ride and push and finally just carry yourself up to the summit of the Rote Wand. The view up here is gigantic.

After a short rest, the very long descent on the Rote Wand climb begins. The upper section is very technical and not suitable for everyone, but it becomes very flowy from around 1900 meters above sea level. The descent to Wattenberg is endless. You cross the tarred road a few times and ride down to Wattens. The eternal ascent is rewarded with an equally eternally long descent.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
