Glungezer

At almost 2,700 meters above sea level, the Glungezer is a magnificent bike mountain near Innsbruck that offers a breathtaking panorama and an eternal, yet sometimes challenging trail descent.

Description

The start is in Tulfes. The route is officially a relaxed climb up the Tulfein Alm/Zirbensee gravel highway. The ascent already makes it clear that this is a massive bike tour. A never-ending uphill until you finally reach the Glungezer ski area at Zirbensee, where the first stunning panoramic views lie before you. The ascent up to here could be made considerably easier with the gondola lift. Past the Zirbensee lake, the route then climbs moderately to the Tulfein Jöchl and then pushes or carries you up to the highest point of the tour, the Glungezer. Once at the top, a little Western Alps flair sets in. Breathtaking views of the Innsbruck Nordkette, the northern Wipptal valley and the main Alpine ridge leave nothing to be desired.

On difficulty levels S2 to S3, you first descend to the Glungezer Hütte, where you have to push for a few meters and then continue through the basin towards the Viggarspitze. Passing below the Viggarspitze, you ride along a partially paved path through the Swiss stone pine forests with a breathtaking panorama. Even if the difficulty here increases to S3 to S4 in places. At the Boscheben inn, turn right along the stone pine path and follow it relatively easily at S1 to S2 level towards the Patscherkofelbahn mountain station. Continue down the classic route to the Lanser Alm. Difficulty levels S2 to S3 are also required here, with the path becoming increasingly easy in the lower section. Once you arrive in Sistrans, you then take the official cycle route back to the starting point.

Conclusion: A perfect bike tour, which is particularly suitable during the inter-holiday period, when only a small number of hikers can be expected in the late afternoon.
