Lampsenspitze

Lampsenspitze

The Lampsenspitze in the Sellrain Valley offers high alpine bike flair with a very challenging and technical trail descent, which is framed by a unique mountain panorama.

Description

The starting point for this challenging tour is the hiking and ski touring parking lot on Praxmarer Straße. From there, the trail rides steadily uphill on asphalt towards Praxmar. Shortly before reaching your destination, turn right onto the Praxmar toboggan run and follow it through picturesque Swiss stone pine forests with an impressive mountain backdrop. The gradient varies, while the surface eventually changes to gravel and takes you to an altitude of almost 2150 meters above sea level. The pedalable part of the route ends at the Kogelhütte.

The highest point of the tour is reached after a strenuous ascent on foot: the bike is carried almost 700 meters up to the summit. The ascent at Wilden See and Satteljoch offers a top-class Western Alps feeling. The Schöntalspitze and the surrounding glaciers frame the indescribable mountain panorama. At the summit at almost 2900 meters above sea level, it is advisable to take a break for refreshments before the descent begins.

The descent rides over technically demanding sections with difficulties of S1 and S2, interrupted by significant S3 and S4 passages that require controlled speed and precise lines. A "flowier" section is followed by a short pushing passage over a rocky outcrop before the trail rides at S3 level to the Kogelhütte. The idyllic Kogelhütte offers perfect resting opportunities.

The way back has a small "flaw": after initially easy to ride meters, there is a pushing section in the forest that is about 50-70 meters long. The trail then continues with difficulty level S3 and crosses the toboggan run. Alternatively, you can use the gravel road to get back on at the junction. The last few meters back to Praxmar are on an S2 and occasionally S3 trail before you reach asphalt again. The tour ends with a relaxed descent on the asphalt road down to the valley and further trail sections back to the starting point, which offer S2 and S3 levels.

Conclusion: This tour is a gem for technically experienced bikers who are looking for a magnificent mountain panorama and challenges. Despite a small technical deficiency, the route offers ideal conditions in summer due to the altitude and low frequency of hikers.

Trail ridden today!
The sliding section over the rocky outcrop can be bypassed on the right coming from below. Easy to push upwards and almost completely rideable downwards!
Downhill variant for e-bikers to avoid the flaw: From the Kogelhütte slightly uphill towards Freihut. For technically good e-bikers completely rideable and at the next possibility towards the valley. Difficulty S2-S3
