Salfeins (Innsbruck)

At 2000 meters above sea level, Salfein's summit to the north not only offers the best all-round mountain panorama, but also an inviting trail descent that is one of the best in the Innsbruck area.

Description

The tour starts in Grinzens, near Axams. Initially, the route runs along the L12 country road for a short time before heading steadily uphill on a forest path to Nederer Hütte. The gradient is medium and offers a beautiful view of the Inn Valley and the Nordkette mountain range that frames Innsbruck even during the uphill section in the lighter forest areas. After around 700 meters in altitude, you reach the Nederer Hütte, from where the bike is either carried or pushed. It should be noted that even with a light e-MTB, you will have to push your bike for around 300 meters in this section. From the so-called Figl, which is also an ideal starting point, the route rides above the vegetation line along a relatively flat, gentle ridge to the summit of Salfein, from where there are magnificent views of the Kalkkögel and the Upper Inn Valley. The Kalkkögel exude a strong Dolomite flair, especially in the autumn sun.

The descent begins on the Figl Steig, which previously served as the ascent route. Overall, the route can be classified as difficulty level S2 throughout, but contains some key sections or somewhat more challenging sections. The route is pleasant and rides steadily downhill through the woods without any ascents. The closer you get to the settlement area, the easier the trail becomes until it finally leads back into the uphill section, from where you roll back to the starting point on gravel and asphalt.
