Beiljoch

Beiljoch (Peiljoch)

The Beiljoch (Peiljoch) in the Stubai Alps has a merciless ascent followed by an extremely difficult descent. The tour is framed by high alpine landscapes - a dream day for technically experienced riders.

Description

The starting point for this challenging tour is the glacier road near the Grawa Alm. The route initially rides steadily uphill on asphalt, past the large parking lots of the Gamsgarten valley station, and then tackles the steep feeder road to the Fernau mid-station building and the Dresdner Hütte. The extremely steep gradients challenge even experienced bikers.

The highest point of the tour is reached after a strong uphill section, which includes a pushing passage of almost 400 meters in altitude up to the Beiljoch. This section is very alpine and requires surefootedness and a head for heights. Once you reach the Beiljoch, you are rewarded with a spectacular view of the 3,000-metre peaks of the Stubai Alps.

The descent begins with a section of difficulty level S3 and increases to S4. This should only be ridden in dry conditions, as otherwise the trail becomes more of a "bike ride". The trail leads over hairpin bends, steep steps and loose granite gravel, which is extremely demanding, to the Sulzenausee lake. The route continues with a traverse past the Blaue Lacke to the Sulzenauhütte, followed by a trail full of hairpin bends, which is particularly trial-heavy due to its low gradient in the bends.

The last section leads to the Sulzenaualm, where you can roll well for a short time before the final, technically challenging end begins. Once again, trails of difficulty levels S3 and S4 await. The trail through the forest over roots, extreme drops, hairpin bends and rock slabs offers a classic S4 level. The return to the starting point is on the Ruetz riverside path, which is a welcome respite after the technical challenges.

Conclusion: This tour is a real challenge and only suitable for technically experienced riders, as otherwise the amount of pushing on the downhill is excessive.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
