Monte Cornua Ridge Ride
Description
The starting point of this varied circular tour is the small harbor town of Sori on the Ligurian coast. The view of the glittering Mediterranean Sea and the brightly painted houses form a picturesque backdrop for the start. From here, the steady climb begins via the village of Capreno up to Monte Cornua. The route winds its way through the Mediterranean hilly landscape at a constant incline, offering impressive panoramic views time and again.
After around 700 meters in altitude, the first part of the ascent is complete. This is followed by a short, pushing section to the summit of Monte Cornua - the highest point of the tour at around 890 meters above sea level. On clear days, the view extends as far south as Corsica, while the peaks of the Maritime Alps can be seen to the west.
This is followed by a varied descent on narrow paths, which is technically challenging in places. Overall, the trail is between difficulty levels S1 and S3. Depending on the weather and ground conditions - be it dry as dust or slippery and wet - short sections of pushing may be necessary. Small climbs are also part of the route.
The descent rides over Monte Castelletto down to the church of Sant'Apollinare, a worthwhile stop with a beautiful view. Further on, small asphalt roads alternate with short trail sections before the loop closes again near the coast.
Note: Due to the southern exposure, it can get very warm in summer, both on the ascent and the descent. In spring and autumn in particular, however, the location provides ideal conditions - perfect for a tour when the sun is low in the evening.
