Monte Leco
Description
The starting point of this varied mountain bike tour is the village of Campomorone, located on the Torrente Verde - the "green river" west of Genoa. The ascent starts from here on asphalt. The route rides through typical Ligurian mountain villages and climbs steadily until you finally reach the Passo della Bocchetta. The ascent so far is completely asphalted and impresses with magnificent views over the surrounding hills and valleys.
After the pass, the road surface changes: a historic road with original cobblestones continues uphill and leads directly to the summit of Monte Leco. Crowned by striking antenna systems, the mountain marks the border between Liguria and Piedmont. Thanks to its exposed location, it offers an impressive panoramic view - an ideal summit destination.
The descent over the ridge begins directly from the summit. The trail is somewhat technical at the beginning, but then turns into a sensational cross-country trail that is not only technically impressive, but also scenic. The following section is easy to ride and finally leads into an old mule track that winds its way down into the valley.
This is where the trail becomes more challenging again: the difficulty is between S2 and S3, mainly due to the loose granite stones that require precise line choice and solid riding technique. Above the village of Cravasco, you come across asphalt again, follow it uphill for around 100 meters and then switch to old connecting paths between Pietralavezzara and Isoverde. These partly overgrown paths offer a varied, homogeneous descent with a historical character.
In Isoverde, you reach the valley floor. The way back to Campomorone is relaxed along the Torrente Verde and rounds off this scenic and technically varied tour.
