Monte Moro
Description
Start directly on the Ligurian coast, not far from the port of Nervi. First you follow the coastal road eastwards - mostly with medium to moderate traffic. After a few kilometers, the climb begins along the southern slopes towards Costa d'Orecchia. The uphill is mainly on asphalt, but is interrupted by short trail sections and individual steps. This provides variety and has the advantage of being on a quiet route with little traffic - in contrast to the more heavily frequented Monte Fasce panoramic road.
After around 500 meters in altitude, the highest point of the tour is reached: the Monte Moro complex. The hill was heavily fortified during the Second World War and is still home to numerous bunkers that bear witness to its military past. The existing infrastructure facilitates access - and offers an impressive viewpoint. Despite the comparatively low altitude, the view over the coast is spectacular. Particularly in spring and autumn, when the air is clear and the temperatures are mild, the contours of the coast are impressively clear.
The descent is just as impressive: the trail starts right at the saddle - technically challenging (difficulty S2 to S3), but rewarding throughout. On loose gravel and rocky ground - typical of the region - there are some key sections to master that challenge both riding technique and equipment.
The trail finally leads down towards Nervi. In the lower section, you meet the road again in the Corso Europa area and from there it takes just a few minutes to get back to the starting point near the port.
