Monte Figne
Description
The tour starts just north of Campomorone. At the small hamlet of Pontasso, the route climbs steadily on paved roads through typical Ligurian villages before briefly joining the main road, Via San Martino, and then continuing along the gravel path to Passo Prato Leone. At an elevation of just under 800 meters above sea level, the pedaling comes to an end for the time being. For the next 400 meters of elevation gain, you’ll push or, in some sections, carry your mountain bike to the summit of Monte Figne. This ascent offers impressive scenery and is particularly charming in the spring, with its countless black pines and sparse vegetation. Once you reach the highest point of the tour, on a clear day you can enjoy a sweeping view from the Monte Rosa massif across the Western Alps all the way to the Mediterranean Sea.
The descent initially follows the ascent route, rated S2 with some S3 sections, and offers fairly smooth passages. The route continues at this pace to the Bric di Guana mountain hut and on toward Passo Prato Leone. Then the descent briefly follows the ascent route, followed by a section of trail toward Monte Orditano that requires pushing the bike. After that, the route continues on gravel. Below Monte Sejeu, take the next trail section, which leads directly back to the starting point. The difficulty here ranges from S2 to S3 in some sections, depending on current weather conditions. Optionally, the traverse can be extended to Colle Gandolfi to incorporate the so-called Gandolfi Trail to the south or the descents via Monte Proratado.
