Rescheskogel

Rescheskogel

The Kitzbühel Alps are often somewhat underestimated when it comes to MTB. The Rescheskogel near Mittersill shows that the region can offer breathtaking views and varied trail descents.

Description

The tour starts directly in Mittersill. This town is conveniently located on the south side of the Pass Thurn and at the entrance to the Felbertauern Pass. Mittersill is also easily accessible by train as it has its own train station.

From there, you ride steadily uphill on asphalt along the old pass road through the plateaus and pass the hamlet of Loferstein. You then switch to gravel and follow a classic forest trail that rides along meadow slopes and through forests. The view of the Hohe Tauern is spectacular. Striking mountains such as the Grossglockner and the Grossvenediger become visible after a certain height and offer an impressive panorama with their glacier massifs.

The route continues in this style to the Brandneralm. The forest path ends here and the bike is carried or pushed along an unmarked but clearly visible meadow path towards the summit. On this path you finally meet up with the official hiking trail again and after a few more meters you reach the end point of the tour at around 2200 meters above sea level. On the border between Tyrol and Salzburg, you can enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panorama. The summit is isolated and therefore offers a panoramic view that is second to none. The distant views are particularly impressive in autumn.

The descent begins with a challenging descent (difficulty S2, S3 in places) over the first few meters. After the saddle, the trail leads gently across meadows and loses altitude meter by meter until you reach the Liendlalm. Here the route continues with a small counter-climb along a forest road before turning into the next trail section (difficulty S1, S2) through the forest. This former cart track of the alpine pasture is perfect as a trail.

In a similar way, you return to the hamlet of Loferstein and then ride along a combination of asphalt and gravel roads to Oberhof. From Oberhof, you follow an easy mule track and return to the starting point in Mittersill with a touch of cross-country feeling.

The tour is also ideal for e-bikes if you are prepared to use the push assist for the ascent to the summit.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
