Plattenkogel

Plattenkogel (Pinzgau)

The Plattenkogel near the Gerlos Pass between the Durlaßboden reservoir and Krimml scores with an extraordinary mountain panorama and an inviting and harmonious trail descent.

Description

The starting point of the tour is the small village of Wald im Pinzgau. From here, the route rides steadily uphill on asphalt along the old Gerlos road until you reach Königsleiten. Visually, the surroundings already resemble a small paradise, and with a touch of Western Alps flair, the route continues through the ski resort. At Silberleiten, further up on the Gerlosplatte, an inviting view opens up, even if the lifts don't exactly cut a particularly pretty figure in summer. However, you leave them behind and ride steadily uphill until you reach the highest point of the tour, the Plattenkogel at 2039 meters above sea level. The view there is magnificent, as is the place to rest.

After that, the descent on the trail begins. At the start, you will come across a small sign prohibiting cycling. If you are put off by this, you can roll back onto gravel; for everyone else, a magnificent descent opens up. With a slight Western Alps flair, the route leads through the meadows and over gravel with difficulty level S2 and a few hairpin bends. Finally, you reach the Breitscharte after a short ascent. A challenging hairpin bend trail begins at the Breitscharte. It is an advantage here if you have the right technique for the hairpin bends and can move them easily. With difficulty level S2, the trail continues towards hairpin bend 7 at the Schönmoosalm.

A short intermediate ascent on the Gerlosstraße follows before you reach an old mule track with difficulty level S1, occasionally S2 and from the cross with hairpin bends and level S3 back to Krimml. After a short section on the provincial road, you finally return to the starting point along the Tauern Cycle Path.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
