Cima della Mandria – Porte del Salton
Description
The tour starts in the small village of Alano di Piave and initially leads steadily uphill on asphalt in serpentines along the north side of Monte Tomba. The even gradient allows for a constant rhythm, while impressive views open up as the altitude increases. Once you reach the ridge, you cross it and enjoy breathtaking panoramas of the Venetian lowlands - on a clear day in autumn and winter, you can see as far as Treviso, Jesolo and Venice.
From here, the route continues along an old military road that climbs steadily uphill to Cima della Mandria. If you like, you can climb up to the chapel and enjoy the magnificent panoramic view. Then return to the saddle and from there descend northwards via CAI 849 Vedetta/Camparonetta. The first descent is relatively easy to Malga Camparoneta, from where a gravel track leads on to Malga Camparona.
After this, you meet the CAI 849 again, follow it only briefly and keep going with a small counter-climb towards Porte di Salton on the CAI 846. This is where the technically demanding descent with difficulty level S3 begins. The loose gravel in combination with dry earth and foliage makes the ride challenging, and the many hairpin bends require precise riding technique. In classic zigzag fashion, the route descends steadily into the valley. The route briefly runs along the Via Monte Grappa before you complete the last section of the tour along a stream. Finally, you return to Alano di Piave, where the tour comes to an end.
