Cima Campo – Forte Leone | Ride MTB

Cima Campo – Forte Leone

Forte Leone (Cima Campo)

The Valsugana is dotted with countless military installations from the First World War. The summit area of the Cima Campo is also fortified with the Forte Leone, which makes for an interesting ascent and descent.

Description

The tour starts in Primolano and begins on asphalt with a slight incline before riding through the impressive Primolano plant. The route then continues towards Fastro, where it turns onto a gravel road on the south side towards Forte Leone/Cima Campo. You work your way uphill meter by meter, while the views of the Valsugana and the surrounding Asiago plateaus become increasingly spectacular. The last few meters run along a wide military road, which is easy to master, until you finally reach Forte Leone/Cima Campo - an impressive defensive structure from the First World War, which is a popular destination for excursions, especially in summer and at weekends.

From Forte Leone, which offers breathtaking views thanks to its strategic position, the descent rides relatively easily along the ridge at S1 to occasionally S2 level to Malga Spianisighe. You then come to the uphill section again and follow a singletrail crossing that runs parallel to the ascent road. Here the difficulty increases to S2 to S3, although it should be noted that there are occasionally motorcyclists in this region, which can affect the riding conditions. The surface consists of loose gravel and foliage on classic beech forest soil, which can be particularly challenging in dry conditions. Finally, you reach Fastro again, tackle a short counter-climb and ride back to the starting point in Primolano on the Sentiero Tagliata/Genio.
