Schwarzenstein Hütte

Schwarzenstein Hütte (Ahrntal)

The Schwarzenstein Hut is probably the ultimate high alpine bike tour in the Ahrntal Valley, which rides to the highest hut in the Zillertal Alps at over 3000 meters above sea level. An exceptional experience for very good biking technicians with high alpine experience on bike and on foot.

Description

The tour starts in the hamlet of Oberluttach. From here, the route follows the cycle path to St. Johann and then becomes steeper and steeper up to the Daimeralm (1862 meters above sea level). The last few meters of altitude before the alpine pasture on a steep concrete ramp are particularly challenging. Pedaling finally comes to an end at the Daimeralm. From now on, the bike has to be pushed and carried along the seemingly endless serpentines to the Rotbachkees basin. In the Rotbachkees basin, you can ride a few meters of the tour for a short time. Now the technical and high alpine section of the tour begins. There is a rope-secured section at an altitude of around 150 meters and there are always sections to master that require alpine experience, trail safety and a head for heights. Once you have completed these sections, you reach a small high plateau and can now see the Schwarzenstein hut shimmering high up in the terrain at over 3000 meters above sea level. The rest of the ascent is not really a problem from here, but it is very strenuous. Once you arrive at the Schwarzenstein Hütte, the mountain panorama is breathtaking. In the middle of the Zillertal Alps, the Ahrntal and the Dolomites lie at your feet and you have high alpine flair in the midst of a bizarre and breathtaking glacier world. The tour can also be organized as a two-day tour by choosing the uphill on the first day and the downhill on the second day. Fit bikers can do the tour in one day.

The downhill starts at a difficulty level of S2 to S3 up to the Rotbachkees, where you reach the rope safety measures again. The bike has to be carried down here, followed by a trail with difficulty S3 to S4 to the Daimeralm. Endlessly long, seemingly endlessly difficult and endlessly exhausting. Full concentration is required and there are only a few places where you can let your bike roll for a short time. Especially before the Daimeralm, the trail really shows its teeth and punishes carelessness or a riding mistake immediately. At the Daimeralm, you briefly roll down the concrete ramp with no trail section towards the Ortneralm on the ascent variant for around 150 vertical meters before completing the Ahrntaler Sonnenwege on difficulty S2 to the Rotbachalm with a big grin on your face. The flow slowly builds up and doesn't let up until you reach Oberluttach and the starting point. The historic trails are made for bikers and offer a breathtaking playground in the middle of a fairytale forest.

Important: The tour rides through high alpine terrain and, for a short time, through a rope insurance with a steel ladder. Only those with plenty of experience of such situations should set off on the seemingly endless route to the Schwarzenstein Hut.
