Tafamunt

Kops Stausee

A great, flowing single trail is hidden at the very back of the Montafon. There are a lot of hikers here during the vacation season, but off-season at off-peak times, the trail offers a great trail experience

Description

The starting point for this scenic tour is Partenen in Montafon. From here, you follow the asphalt road, which is closed to public traffic, steadily uphill to the Kopsstausee reservoir. The ascent is long and occasionally quite steep. Once at the top, follow the lakeside path along the lake for a while before a cart path rides over to the Verbellaalpe. This is where the real trail highlight begins: a super smooth and flowy trail (S1 to S2) rides right through the mountain flanks to the middle station of the Tafamuntbahn. Caution: There are many hikers on the trail, especially in high season. We therefore recommend only tackling the trail outside of the cable car's operating hours.

From the middle station, the trail shows its rougher side: the path becomes increasingly rooty and technical (S3). At this pace, the trail rides steadily downhill to Gaschurn. At the end, you roll relaxed along the valley back to Partenen, where the loop comes to an end.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
