Trunajoch - Südabfahrt

Trunajoch Südabfahrt

The crossing of the Trunajoch from the Gschnitztal to the Obernberger Tal is a highlight in terms of landscape and trail with a solitude factor.

Description

The starting point of the tour is the parking lot at the Bergeralmbahn in Steinach am Brenner. From here, it's like a scene from "Lord of the Rings" to Trins. From Trins, you pedal along a forest highway on an official cycle route idyllically and steadily up through the forest, past the Trunahütte hut to the Trunajoch pass. The last few meters in altitude have to be mastered by pushing before you arrive at the Trunajoch and have a breathtaking view of the peaks of the Zillertal main ridge, over the Lichtsee lake and as far as the Tribulaun massif.

As a reward, there is not only this breathtaking mountain panorama, but also a full trail descent on the plan. Initially at difficulty level S2, somewhat overgrown and washed out, it leads to the Lichtsee lake. A true natural gem. From the Lichtsee lake, the route continues in this style to Obernberg am Brenner. The trail could be followed further, but at the official cycle route, the Lärchenwiesenweg, you now take this and cross the entire area below the Eggerberg and Nösslachjoch to the official bike park route. This variant saves you the relatively unspectacular return journey on asphalt from Gries to Steinach. Once you arrive at the bike park, you can now choose between two variants: the so-called "Red Devil" and "Crazy Heart", so you can once again release the brakes and let the adrenaline rush take full effect. Between berms and jumps, everything is on offer here. Relatively unspoilt and rarely overcrowded, the bike park is a real joy. It finally ends at the starting point.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
