Casera Rupeit
Description
From Maniago, ride along the SR251 to Montereale. In the center of the village, turn right onto Via Camilo Benso. This road soon rides out of the village to the left and becomes a rough gravel road. At the top of the hill, turn right onto the road to Pala d'Altei. The road now climbs for almost nine kilometers. At the observatory, the road surface changes to gravel. After another four kilometers, the forest road comes to an end. A small path Cai 988 begins here, which you now tackle by riding and pushing. At the top, you meet the cart path that rides to Casera Rupeit. If you want to enjoy the view from the unmanned hut, you have to push another 125 meters in altitude and 800 meters until you reach the Casera. If you don't want to push up any more, the descent begins here at the junction on the left.
The cart path is stony and interspersed with rocks. The following trail consists of forest floor with a few stones. Not very steep, it invites you to let go of the brakes. The descent to Montereale is quite fun with fast bends and a few short counter-climbs over a meadow hump. Those who like it fast will enjoy the downhill. In Montereale you start the return journey. 700 meters after the dam wall, take a sharp left onto the uphill trail. This saves you the tarred road back to Maniago. At a fork, take the right-hand trail and continue over the hill until you reach the tarmac road and roll down to Maniago.
